Executive Director at Foundation for Healthy Communities
Peter Ames is the Executive Director of the Foundation for Healthy Communities, an affiliate of the New Hampshire Hospital Association based in Concord. The Foundation serves as a convening entity for partners committed to improving health and health care for all through community engagement in New Hampshire. Peter oversees the health programs of the Foundation, which include medical quality, rural health, substance use disorders, behavioral health, population health, emergency preparedness, patient and family engagement, and advanced care planning. Prior to joining the Foundation in 2017, Peter spent 12 years in several roles with the American Cancer Society in New Hampshire, focusing on cancer prevention through education, health systems change, and legislative advocacy. Peter is a graduate of UNH and received his MPH from George Washington University. While living in DC, he worked on Capitol Hill as a legislative aide to former Congressman Jeb Bradley. Peter is the proud dad of three children, Grace 12, Tyler 10, and Sophia 8, and he is happiest when he is outdoors exploring with them. Peter enjoys active leisure, including running, skiing, and hiking in the White Mountains. He lives with his wife Heidi and family in Litchfield.
